It was already 30 years ago when Regine Velasquez stepped in into the showbiz world. It started off when she bagged the grand prize in the TV reality singing contest, "Ang Bagong Kampeon" when she was only 14 years old.
Thirty years later, the Asia's songbird will be marking her third decade with a grand solo concert titled, "R3.0" at the Mall of Asia Arena this coming October 21, 2017.
Prior to her concert, a new album will also be released. It will be a three-volume set with new recordings of some of her greatest hits, personal favorites and original compositions by Filipino composers.
This was confirmed yesterday, June 27 at the Viva Office during Regine's contract signing. Boss Vic del Rosario Jr. also clarified that this is a collaboration with Regine.
“We’re partners, of course. Partner kami ng company nila with Cacai [Velasquez-Mitra] to do the concert.”
“Hopefully, pati mga probinsiya, magkakaroon kami ng mga tour.
“Talagang big celebration for Regine and kasabay nun ang kanyang much-awaited album na tatlumpo ang kanta.
“Thirty best songs of Regine na ni-record nang bago, all originals.
“Three discs, available before the concert,” Boss Vic added.
This is Regine's return to Viva wherein she built her career as a premium singer and actress not just in the country but the world.
Boss Vic also expressed how proud her is of Regine's success.
“Proud kami dahil Regine is one of the biggest recording artists of all time.
“So, at least, proud kami na dito, sa Viva, lalabas yung kanyang 30th anniversary album. Thirty great songs.
“Ano ito, milestone. Ito yung second milestone after niya manganak. Important milestone.”
It can be remembered that she recorded her very first album with Viva in 1987. It included "Urong Sulong" and her first movie theme song, "Isang Lahi" for the film "Gabi Na Kumander." It was then followed by her greatest hits "On the Wings of Love," "Kung Maibabalik Ko Lang," "Dadalhin Kita," "Ikaw," and many more.
As an actress, she got her big break when she was paired with Christopher De Leon in "Wanted Perfect Mother" in which she also sung the OST, "YOu Are My Song" which also turned out to be one of her greatest hits.
It was then followed by other blockbuster movies like "Kailangan Ko'y Ikaw" where she was paired with Robin Padilla, "Ikaw Lamang Hanggang Ngayon" with Richard Gomez where she was named as Box-Office Queen by Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Foundation.
Regine also won Best Actress in Comedy at the Entpress Awards with her film, "Of All The Things" with Aga Muhlach.
