A few weeks ago, the annual MYX Music Awards gave recognition to local artists who excelled in their field during the very gracious event held at the Kia Theatre in Quezon City.
The Popstar Royalty, Sarah G, has won the Favorite Music video award for her hit, "Tala," while Gloc 9 won the "Best Music Video" for "Hoy."
Both videos were directed by multi-award-winning director, Paul Basinillo.
He has also been a long-time creative collaborator of Sarah G for some of her songs.
In an interview by ABS-CBN, Direk Paul shared the struggles they faced in shooting "Tala."
“It was challenging for us,” Direk Paul started.
“We had to shoot everything against green screen and generate the virtual background.
The set was awesomely built and the editing was great thanks to a wonderful and talented team.
Thanks to Sarah’s inputs and the awesome choreography of G-force, we were able to come up with something different.”
He also shared some experiences in shooting "Hoy."
“It was a very technical music video. The song has a very inspiring message.
"It exemplifies the best characters of every Filipino. Amidst the hardships, we are still joyful people.
That really inspired us to do it in a unique environment like tenement in Taguig,” he related.
"We used real talents from the community and they were all very helpful and good actors as well.
"We choreographed the whole scene to put meaning to Gloc-9’s words.
"If you view it several times now, you will see all the visual nuances.
"The hardest thing was we took it all in one shot without cuts and double time speed to give it a slow motion effect when we play it back,” he concluded.
Congratulations Direk Paul!
