Filipinos love music. We sing, we play our instruments of choice, and if that’s not an option we do the most obvious way of enjoying music. Sound-tripping! This is the main thought that went in the making of the new VICOR Music and VIVA Records release PINOY SOUNDTRIP Volume 1: LOADED WITH RETRO HITS! An album guaranteed to make you enjoy listening to the feel good, hip shaking classics of OPM again.
![]() And when it says Loaded with retro hits…you’d better believe it because the best of the 70’s and the 80’s are included in this album. From the 70’s bracket, this 18-track collection includes the hits of Rico J Puno, Hotdog, Labuyo, Hagibis, Rey Valera, Cinderella, Pat Castillo, Leah Navarro, Celeste Legaspi, Ella Del Rosario, and Pol Enriquez. These singers have definitely made their marks and some of them continually do so, but it was at the onset of their careers that they made their defining hits. “Macho Guwapito”, “Manila” , “Tuloy Pa Rin Ako”, “Legs” , “Kumusta Ka” , “Ang Boyfriend Kong Baduy” , “Aso’t Pusa” , “Ligaw-tingin” , “Saranggola Ni Pepe” , “O Lumapit Ka” and “Ayoko Na Sa’yo” are some of the most memorable songs in the OPM canon and thru PINOY SOUNDTRIP Volume 1, you can listen and enjoy these songs again. From the 80’s side of the collection we start with the Divas. Before she was called the divine diva, Zsa Zsa Padilla sang “Mambobola” and before her reign, Regine Velasquez had a hit with “Urong-sulong.” Randy Santiago scored a late 80’s hit with his song “Babaero” as likewise Donna Cruz with her bubblegum hit “Kapag Tumibok Ang Puso.” In between there’s also Sharon Cuneta (“I-swing Mo Ako”) because we all know Ate Shawie lorded it in the late 70’s and the 80’s as do the Apo Hiking Society (“Mahirap Magmahal Ng Syota Ng Iba”).
![]() If that isn’t enough, you might want a double dose of the sound tripping with PINOY SOUNDTRIP Volume 2: Loaded With Retro Hits! This second volume also mirrors the first compilation in terms of number of tracks (18 songs) genre (pinoy pop) decade (70’s and the 80’s) and artist caliber. Consider the following OPM legends and their hit singles; Ric Segreto with “Kahit Konting Pagtingin” , Tito Mina’s “Ikaw Pa Rin” , Timmy Cruz with “Boy” , “Kung Sakali” by Pabs Dadivas, “Binibini” by the Rainmakers, “Oh Babe” by Singsing, “May Minamahal” by Hajji Alejandro, “Paniwalaan” by Blue Jeans, Joanne Lorenzana with “Kung Alam Mo Lang” , Yolly Samson in “Pag-ibig Ko’y Ibang-iba” , “Pangako” by Flippers and “Yakap” by Junior. Some artists from the first volume make a reappearance with their other classics such as Cinderella with the first rate “Bato Sa Buhangin” , Apo Hiking Society with the overlooked gem “Pag-ibig”, VST & Company with “Ikaw Ang Aking Mahal”, Rey Valera in “Naalala Ka” , Sharon Cuneta with her breakthrough song “Mr. DJ” and finally Randy Santiago with “Para Sa ‘Yo”. It’s an aural trip down memory lane. It’s time to update that aging vinyl collection if you haven’t yet because whether it’s your house, car or the workplace, you get only the biggest hits in this value jam-packed CD’s, which makes Pinoy Soundtrip Volumes 1 & 2, really fun albums to have around. PINOY SOUNDTRIP Volumes 1 and 2: LOADED WITH RETRO HITS! are all original and digitally remastered for maximum listening enjoyment.
