Carlo Aquino is a name so popular to Filipinos that people just can’t help but mimic his remarkable and undying line—“Akala mo lang wala, pero meron! Meron! Meron!” everytime people get to talk about him or even use it in their everyday conversation. His incredible talent paired with such potent eyes helped him land as one of the greatest young actors in the archipelago and everyone agreed that no any other actor can ever deliver such deathless phrase with razor-sharp intensity than of this wonder guy.

As a former ABS-CBN contract star, we’ve seen him as a young boy who play different roles at Ang TV, Familia Zaragoza and as himself at Kaybol and Cyberkada. As he grow up, we witnessed how he flourished not just a young star but a serious teen on G-mik wherein he was paired with Angelica Panganiban and we adored his literary enthusiasm at Pahina as Balt with Dianne dela Fuente. He never disappoints whenever he embarks on a new phase on his career—we’ve seen him playing Eman dela Cruz in the popular TV drama Sa Puso ko Iingatan ka, the intelligent third child at the legendary Ang Tanging Ina (in both films and TV show) and even played the tribesman Giwal in Krystala with Judy Ann Santos.

To Carlo, acting comes as natural as breathing that’s why conquering numerous award is obviously no sweat. He acquired several critic nods on his stellar performance in the highly acclaimed movie Bata, Bata Paano Ka Ginawa with Ms. Vilma Santos including Best New Movie Actor for Star Awards, Most Popular Child Actor at Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Awards and he’s one of the youngest who’ve won the Best Supporting Actor Award at Film Academy Awards in 1999. 

The next year after that, he starred as Marlito in the movie, Kahapon May Dalawang Bata which also tookhim to several nominations such as Best Actor for Star Awards and Film Academy of the Philippines and he’s won the coveted Parangal ng Bayan Top Entertainer Awardee Most Promising Young Actor and Most Popular Child Actor for the well-respected Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Awards for the said movie.
We’ve also witnessed his budding versatile acting talent in the mainstream scene for the movies Alyas Pogi 3, Daddy O! Baby O!, Sugatang Puso, Minsan May Isang Puso and Bagong Buwan as Rashid which also gave him a nomination for MMFF for Best Supporting Actor, ManoPo III and his one of the best films, Sa Aking Pagkagising sa Kamulatan.

In 2006, he was paired with Viva’s pop princess Sarah Geronimo as her thoughtful bestfriend Oman in one of the top rating shows ever, the TV remake of Bituing Walang Ningning. He then decided to explore his trade in the other network later that year and signed an exclusive contract to Viva Artists Agency,Inc. He started to appear into dramas like Makita Kang Muli as Leo and Sinasamba Kita as Oscar, both shown at GMA 7.

In 2008, he starred as Caloy, a timid lead rocker wannabe in TV5’s pride—Rakista. He showed his passion on music and his also being a lead vocalist in his own band Kollide has been one of the inspirations for the said program. He was also invited to act at his homegrown station’s longest running drama anthology Maalaala Mo Kaya several times and joined the original cast for a sequel to Ang Tanging Ina in the same year. He was also noted for his dynamic and esthetic performance in the indie film, Tuli and Viva’s MMFF 2008 entry Baler as Gabriel Reyes which also gave him another nomination for Best Supporting Award. His winning streak hasn’t wear out as he bagged the Best Actor for Cinemanila Digital Local and nominated again as Movie Actor of the Year for PMPC Star Awards 2009 and Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role (Drama) at the same year for one of his most talked about indie film, Carnivore.

 He recently tried his effectively as a wicked villain in GMA afternoon drama, Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin as Phillip and he conspicuously succeeds in that. To date, we can see him exhibiting his versatility not as a child star anymore but more of a character actor on the boob tube as Ruben San Diego in Tinik Sa Dibdib and fans are already looking forward on his new soap, Kahit Minsan Lang.

Carlo may have found his niche as a young actor years ago but as he grow older, we can still count on him in whatever role he’ll take. He’ll do it just unexpectedly brilliant and always sweep us off our feet every time he faces the camera and doing expressions only he can make.
